Asian lamps were a common site in ancient China. They were often used during weddings, burials, religious ceremonies and when changing residences. Chinese characters were often written on Chinese lamps, with expressions of hope. Traditionally, paper hanging lamps were attached to tall poles and transported during ceremonies. Dragon lamps were also popular. The dragon as a Chinese symbol and sign of the Chinese zodiac, was the seal of the emperor and is a coveted time to be born. Once every 12 years, the year of the dragon comes around. People born during the year of the dragon are said to be strong, healthy and natural born leaders. Bruce Lee was born during the year of the dragon, in 1940.
